As part of our PAWS expectations, we are reminding all Wildcats about the importance of Practicing Safety and Acting Kindly by keeping our hands, feet, and objects to ourselves.
TK & Kindergarten Wildcats:
Our youngest students are still learning how to navigate friendships, manage big emotions, solve problems, and communicate when they are frustrated. At this age, behavior is often a teachable moment. When an unsafe behavior occurs, staff immediately address the behavior, help students understand what happened, practice a more appropriate response, and reteach expectations.
We encourage our families to reinforce the same message at home: It is okay to be mad, frustrated, or upset, but it is never okay to hurt someone. Students can use their words, move away, take a break, or ask an adult for help.
When a TK/K student demonstrates behavior that is unsafe to themselves or others, families will be notified so that we can work together to reinforce safe choices.
1st–6th Grade Wildcats:
As students get older, they are expected to demonstrate increasing independence and responsibility for their choices. Staff will continue to reteach expectations and help students problem-solve; however, unsafe physical behavior may also result in appropriate school consequences in accordance with our school and district discipline procedures. Families will be contacted when significant physical or unsafe behaviors occur.
We also remind students that if someone hurts them or makes them feel unsafe, they should tell a teacher, playground supervisor, or another trusted adult right away so we can help.
